How to Lead Like Your Favorite Marvel Superheroes

How to Lead Like Your Favorite Marvel Superheroes

More than 10 years and 18 movies, Marvel studios have given us some epic stories, characters, and films. Along with heavy doses of entertainment, these movies have also moved the audience in one way or the other.

They have left an indelible impression on young minds by teaching them the real meaning of leadership and responsibility.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Marvel heroes have inspired, motivated, and enabled us to see the world through a different lens time and again. It got me thinking what if we could emulate their qualities in the professional space to position ourselves as a better leader.

Interesting, isn’t it?

Let’s go:

1. Captain America: Care For Your People

Steve Rogers aka Captain America is one of the most iconic figures in the Marvel series. In the beginning, he was rejected and deemed unfit for military service in World War II, thanks to a top-secret experiment, the scrawny chap was transformed into a super-soldier we all know.

What to learn from Captain America: You don’t always need a title to lead - that’s what I learned from him. Even when he is no longer Captain America, he is still very much focused on the greater goal to save the world.

True leaders put employees above themselves. They have a solid core, integrity, and conviction. Rogers has always led by example whether in personal life or in the battlefield like a leader.

2. Iron Man: Never Stop Improving

Tony Stark aka Iron Man is a tech genius and owner of the world’s largest tech corporation in the Marvel world. When he realized that his company isn’t doing what it should be doing, he takes action and builds an armor suit to fight the bad guys. He has always held his ground, believed in his mission, and fought hard to keep it alive.

What to learn from Iron Man: If you’ve followed his movies, you might know that his armor has evolved a lot ever since it was invented. He’s always using technology and the latest tools to enhance his abilities and add more features to his suit.

A true leader is never satisfied just like Stark. He is always finding new and effective ways to manage work. If required, he even introduces his team to latest work management or time tracking tools to encourage them to deliver their best work. Technology can be your biggest ally if you know how to use it smartly. (Lesson no. 2)

3. Thor: Be Adaptable Enough and Keep Honing New Skills

Thor is the Marvel’s God of Thunder and protector of the Earth. He has displayed heroism and courage numerous times but for me, he emerged as a true hero when his sister (Hela) crushed his hammer, Mjolnir right in front of his eyes. That when the moment when he realized that his real powers lie within him and the hammer was a mere tool to channelize the power in a better way.

What to learn from Thor: Leaders don’t fear losing an important tool or resource. They prepare for all the risks in advance and keep honing new skills in order to adjust accordingly when things go south.

4. Black Panther: Be Bold to Share Your Knowledge with Others

Ever since the movie Black Panther has released, I couldn’t help but visualize T’Challa as a young millennial leader. He is both ambitious and humble. In of the scenes, Black Panther said, “In times of crisis, the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if were one single tribe.”

What to learn from Black Panther: T’Challa was never afraid of taking on challenges, so should you. Be bold and take up new projects. It’s impressive how he explored ways of using his country’s resources on the battlefield. A leader should know the strengths and weaknesses of his team members to know who can do what best and assign tasks accordingly.
