Keep Up The Faith, When Things Go South

At times, it gets really hard to stay “on” and feel awesome. I know you might be dealing with any of it: a job loss, breakup, rejection, delayed promotion, negativity at work, failure, divorce, a serious illness, or anything worse. Any of the sufferings is a horrible thing to go through because none of us is immune to life’s trials.

J.K Rowling, the bestselling author with the phenomenal rags to riches story, remarked, ‘It is not possible to live away from failure at something unless you live so carefully that you might as well not have lived at all. In which case, you fail by default.’

Whatever it is, don’t lose hope! The failures on the way are signs of progress. It is probably preparing you for a life far greater and brighter.

What to Do When The Worst Happens

Don’t let failure be the final word in your story. The reality is - bad situations happen to everyone, it’s how you deal with it. Here’s what can help you when worst happens.

Reframe the Situation

When you face failure, don’t look at it as a roadblock. You should remember: In the first place, why are you doing it? What is the exact thing you’re after? What didn’t go as per the plan? With such questions, you’ll interpret precisely why you failed. By this, you can take appropriate action to face the same situation. As Viktor Frankl once said: “Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any ‘how.’ When you reframe your perspective, you’ll have the strength to keep going because the reason will pull you ahead.

Be Open to Growing your Sense of What You Love to Do

In a commencement address at Stanford, 2005, Steve Jobs remarked, “I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. As your work will fill a large part of your life, so you’ve got to find what you love and to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. Keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.” You fail, you get a chance to know what you love to do. It eventually cultivates a willingness to grow.

Be around Supportive People

Nobody successfully travels life alone. Going through difficult times alone is quite hard. A group of positive people can support you. Reach out to your network of positive people who will encourage you to go ahead and not sit back.

Fill Your Heart with Gratitude

There is a lot to say about appreciating what you already have got rather than longing for what you lost. If you’ve lost something, you should know you have something to be grateful for. Because the mind reaps what it sows. Focus on gratitude, count upon the good things.

Nurture Yourself

You’ll screw up at some point in your life, sometimes your mind and body will need a break. The tender gesture of ‘nurturing’ for yourself will heal you. It is akin to nurturing a seed that blossoms into an exquisite flower. It’s important to take time to nurture yourself. Let yourself live without any restraints until you feel refreshed.

You are not a failure.

You're an overcomer.
