The Bayern Munich captain had 3 surgeries to recover from skill cancer, although he still has a facial scar.

He is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in modern football. Neuer was named the best goalkeeper of the decade from 2011 to 2020 by IFFHS.

According to the Federal Statistical Office records, around 4,000 people died of skin cancer in Germany in 2020.

Most skin cancers are caused by too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays. In order to lower your risk of getting skin cancer, you can protect your skin from UV rays from the sun, and avoid artificial sources of UV exposure like tanning beds and sunlamps.

It's recommended to avoid tanning beds. Ultraviolet light from tanning beds can cause skin cancer and premature skin aging.

Neuer is not expected to miss the World Cup as a result of the cancer.

The Bayern goalkeeper, who is widely considered one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation, could be set for his last major international tournament in Qatar, having made 113 captain for Germany since his senior debut in 2009.

Manuel Neuer, 36, has now invested in a sun cream with German tennis player Angelique Kerber. She is a three-time Grand Slam winner and former Wimbledon champion.

Kerber has also suffered from skin conditions as she has sun-induced hyperpigmentation. She announced in August that she was taking a break from the game as she is pregnant and missed the US Open as a result.

Hyperpigmentatio is caused by exposure to the sun and leads to spots or patches that look brown, black, grey, red or pink on the skin.

Neuer started the first nine league games of the season at Bayern Munich before suffering a shoulder problem, which has kept him out of action since early October.

Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann hinted that Neuer could be back in contention ahead of the Bundesliga giants' trip to Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
