Roger Federer Announces His Retirement From Tennis

Roger Federer has recently announced his retirement from tennis.

The 20 Grand Slam champion is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time.

He has been struggling with a knee problem for the last 3 years and has decided that it is time to step away from tennis.

The Laver Cup will be his final ATP event.

As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear. I am 41 years old. I have played more than 1500 matches over 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career. The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, or course, but just not in Grand Slams or on the tour.

Roger Federer

He was ranked world No. 1 by the Association of Tennis Professionals for 310 weeks, including a record 237 consecutive weeks, and has finished as the year-end No. 1 five times.

Roger Federer, 41 years old, has won 103 ATP singles titles, the second most of all time after Jimmy Connors, including 20 Grand Slam singles titles, a record 8 men's singles Wimbledon titles, 1 French Open title, an Open Era record-tying 5 men's singles US Open titles, and a record 6 Year-end Championships.

Timeless and innovative, Federer can take the court against any tennis player and be certain to leave spectators breathless as they take in his silky-smooth movements and broad spectrum of strokes.

His ability to mix up his forehand constantly keeps his opponents off balance. His serve is nothing other than epic. Roger Federer wields a tennis racket like a wizard conjuring up majestic, fire breathing dragons from the depths of the ocean.

Federer is married to former Women's Tennis Association player Miroslava Federer (née Vavrinec), whom he met while they were both competing for Switzerland at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

The longevity of Federer in the tennis world has been unparalleled.

Like Michael Jordan, Lionel Messi and Muhammad Ali, Federer is more than an athlete.
