The Best Businesses are Built Around Passion

The Best Businesses are Built Around Passion

I like to use the word passion a lot. Sometimes, I even use it interchangeably with happiness, excitement, and anticipation.

Passion is a strong desire and it resides in each one of us. We all have passions. Sometimes it's obvious like... I am a marketing manager at ProofHub and I am quite passionate about blogging. For me, passions are the things that make us willing to stay up late. These are the things that we can't get enough of.

That said, there is no shortage of people in the business world who took their passions and turned it into the most wildly successful new ventures. Here are a few names that you might recognize:

  • Steve Jobs, a teenager whose passion was not in computers, but in simplicity. And later, that passion and obsession for simplicity drove the Apple identity, the strategy, the products, and the success.
  • Bill Gates, an amateur programmer who was passionate enough about computers that in the eighth grade, he managed to get excused from math class to design things like early video games.
  • Walt Disney, a person whose journey started as a young boy who was passionate about drawing and ended with becoming the pioneer of the American animation industry.

These are just a few names and stories at the top of my head. There are several similar stories where a desire fueled by passion bought about the greatest results in life. Now if you’ve dreamed about turning our passions into business ideas, but have no idea how to even get started, I’ve got a few secrets to share.

1. First, Understand Your Passion in-Depth

If you're passionate enough about something and you're planning about starting a business out of it, you've got to dig deeper. Write down everything you know and learn about your passion in-depth. Study the market, study the audience, study the competition, get familiar with the latest technology and trends, and make sure that you’re on the right road.

2. Start Talking to the People around You

The best way to act on turning your greatest passion into a real business is to talk to people who already work in the field. Founders, co-founders, managers, leaders, industry experts, employees—find people you trust and who can offer you a genuine piece of advice regarding your idea.

Follow your passion and success will follow. And for everything in-between, You've got ProofHub!

3. Don't Seek Perfection from the Start—Just Go for it!

There is no point in waiting for the stars to align perfectly because they never do. Similarly, there is no such thing as the perfect start, so don’t wait for it. You don't have to have the perfect business idea from the start.  Just take the leap of faith from passion to business.

The best businesses always start as a passion project. Here's the thing, whatever you choose to do, just make sure you're loving it. I am passionate about being the best I could be, both as a manager and a blogger. I suggest you do the same.

Good luck!
