The Common Path To Uncommon Success

Have you ever wondered what’s the common path to uncommon success?

After interviewing more than 2,500 successful entrepreneurs for his podcast, John Lee Dumas came to the conclusion there is a common path all those who achieve uncommon success follow. Specifically, he came up with a 17-step road map they all tend to follow. In this article, John and I sat down to discuss these 3 key topics:

1) How Have People Been Lied To By The "Online Experts"

2) The Revolutionary 17-Step Road Map For Entrepreneurs To Achieve Financial, Location & Lifestyle Freedom

3) His Book "The Common Path To Uncommon Success"

Here are some pieces of advice and tips which I find will help you.

1) You Are the Average of the 5 People that you Spent the Most Time With

JLD shared that he was with 5 people that weren't motivated and doing great things in the world. Hence, he shared that in order to improve the average of the 5 people whom he spends the most time with, he started to interview people whom he admires and looks up to.

He shared that you can join or create your own Mastermind. When it’s just you, procrastination will win. When two or three people whom you respect are holding you accountable every week, your productivity will skyrocket. You won’t want to let them down and will accomplish great things as a result.

So, where can you find the two or three people who will make up your mastermind? You should be looking for people who are at a similar place in their journey as you are. They can be a little ahead or a little behind, but the key is finding those who are motivated, positive, and ready to support you on this roller coaster of a ride we call life.

2) Don't Compare Yourself with Others

Whenever you compare yourself with anybody, you are setting yourself up for despair. There is only one person you should be comparing yourself with and that's "Our Own-self Yesterday". If you are winning that comparison, you are winning in life.

3) Finding the Right Mentor is Crucial

He/She is somebody that's already where you want to be.

A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself. —OPRAH WINFREY

When you use this approach to find a mentor, you’ll be learning from someone who has recently completed the journey you’re embarking upon. This will ensure their advice is valuable and relevant. They’ll know the rabbit holes and bear traps you must avoid. They’ll know where you can take shortcuts and which activities are worth skipping over. They’ll be able to connect you to the right people in your industry and recommend the events and conferences you should be attending. The right mentor will keep you moving in the right direction while ensuring that your foundation is solid.

4) You Have to be the Only Best Solution to One Real Problem

You don't want to be the 2nd-best or 10th-best. No one remembers how great the losers looked because, at the end of the day, the lasting image is of the person who breaks the finish line first.

He added that there are so many people out there who are launching pale, weak imitations of other people. Instead of doing that, he suggested that we need to find a real problem in this world so that we can provide not just a solution but the best solution. How? Simple, by niching it down. Most assume the broader your niche, the more potential customers, clients, and followers you’ll have access to. It makes sense. If you resonate with everyone, you’ll be able to carve out a bigger piece of the pie. Of course, you want everyone (and their mother) to buy your product, service, or offer. But when you try to resonate with everyone, you’ll resonate with no one.

5) Change Your Perspective & Keep Hustling

JLD shared that your version of uncommon success is common. He reiterated that it's not easy but it's common. He also said that these people want you to think that it's complicated because they want to hand you a key which is a product or service or coaching that costs you loads of money. You only want 1 thing and that's freedom. That's an uncommon success.

6) Invest in Yourself

JLD said that it's not about the financial investments that you're going to make for yourself. What he meant was the time that you are willing to invest. He said that in order to get the most out of the book and the podcast that you are listening to, you have to apply whatever's been shared.
