You Can't Change Upbringing, You Can Change Your Perspective

Whether it was by your parents or parent surrogates, someone raised you.

Whether they raised you well or poorly, you got yourself to where you are today.

No matter what kind of childhood you had or who raised you, you are where you are today because of yourself. You might have had to overcome great obstacles, or you might have had every advantage this world can offer. Whatever the case, as an adult, you must take responsibility for your own actions.

Come to Terms

If you had a difficult childhood, spending all your time blaming your parents for your problems will get you nowhere. Sure, it could be harder for you to reach the same point as someone else. Come to terms with it, and then resolve to work twice as hard. Be proud of what you have accomplished in the face of adversity.

Some of the world's great leaders were raised in orphanages or broken homes. By the same token, some of the most corrupt, evil, and unsuccessful people grew up in relatively stable, comfortable, and pleasant families. If you had a relatively problem-free childhood, you still face the burden of personal responsibility as an adult. A good upbringing will only take you so far.

Realize that you are the one who gets hurt when you dwell on the negative. Accept the facts of your upbringing and move on. Try to accentuate the good things about your childhood and make peace with or change the bad things. Ultimately, where we end up in life is due to our own actions, not those of our parents.
