In a stunning display of skill and precision, world champion Luke Humphries delivered an outstanding performance.

He defeated Michael van Gerwen 8-1 in the final, clinching victory at the German Darts Grand Prix.

Despite van Gerwen initially holding his own in the opening leg, Humphries quickly seized control, winning eight consecutive legs to secure a resounding victory.

Humphries' performance was nothing short of exceptional, boasting an impressive average of 112.66, the second-highest ever recorded in a European Tour final. His remarkable display included two scores of 100-plus, culminating in a sensational 170 checkout to clinch leg eight.

Reflecting on his triumph, Humphries acknowledged the formidable competition, stating, "These are the levels you need to be to win these days, that's how crazy it's got." Expressing admiration for van Gerwen, he added, "I look up to Michael a lot, and beating him in another final is fantastic. I just love playing him to be honest, he shows a lot of respect and the game just goes on. It was a great final, but I was just unbeatable."

The 29-year-old's journey to victory saw him overcome formidable opponents, including Luke Woodhouse, Ryan Joyce, Danny Noppert, and Gerwyn Price, showcasing his exceptional talent and determination throughout the tournament.

In response to his defeat, van Gerwen acknowledged Humphries' dominance, stating, "At this moment he is the best player. We all have to face him and battle, and we have to get back on top." Despite recognizing Humphries' current prowess, van Gerwen remained optimistic, acknowledging that Humphries' reign at the top would not last forever. "He'll know it won't last forever though, but he's playing some cracking darts," van Gerwen remarked.

The German Darts Grand Prix marked the second of 13 PDC European Tour events on the 2024 PDC Pro Tour, further highlighting the competitive landscape of professional darts.

For Humphries, the victory marked his sixth European tour success, solidifying his status as a formidable force in the world of darts. Meanwhile, van Gerwen's appearance in the final marked a record-extending 48th final, showcasing his enduring presence and skill in the sport.

Despite the high stakes and intense competition, teenager Luke Littler's absence from the event in Munich was notable. However, Littler had previously made his mark on the tour, securing victory in the opening event in Wieze, Belgium, in March, underscoring the depth of talent within the professional darts circuit.
