A new study has revealed that Barbie star Margot Robbie is the UK’s most Googled actor over the past 12 months.

The Australian star, who played the lead role in the 2023 summer smash hit Barbie, ranked at the top of the list.

The study analysed the searches for more than 1,000 male and female actors over the past 12 months, and found that Robbie generated the most interest online, with an average of 495,000 searches every month.

She was followed in the ranking by Alan Rickman, who sadly passed away in January 2016, having become one of Britain’s greatest ever actors. Rickman, whose acting credits included the Harry Potter series, Die Hard, and Love Actually, is searched 450,000 times on average each month in the UK.

Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown is the third most Googled actor in the UK, with an estimated 432,000 searches for her name every month.

In fourth place is Olivia Newton John, who died in August 2022. The Grease star’s name was searched on average 420,000 times per month over the past year.

Ryan Reynolds ranks as the fifth most searched actor in the UK, and the highest ranked North American on the list, with 387,000 searches on average each month.

Ana De Armas takes sixth place on 354,000 searches per month, many likely inspired by her break-out role in Netflix hit Wednesday.

Brendan Fraser places seventh on 331,000 monthly searches after winning the Oscar for Best Actor following his performance in The Whale.

Bruce Willis is in eighth with 321,000 searches on average each month, just ahead of Tom Cruise in ninth on 320,000 searches.

Another British acting legend ranks in tenth place – Robbie Coltrane’s name is searched 298,000 times every month by the UK public. The Scotsman most famous for playing Hagrid in the Harry Potter series died in October 2022.

Commenting on the top ten, a spokesperson for the research said: “When it comes to film, this year has been all about Barbie. The film has smashed box office records, and it has propelled interest in Margot Robbie to new heights, helping make her the UK’s most Googled actor.

She is joined in the top ten by a fascinating array of names, from greats of the British acting scene like Alan Rickman and Robbie Coltrane, American box office icons like Bruce Willis and Tom Cruise, and up and coming young actors like Millie Bobby Brown and Ana De Armas. The range really demonstrates the British public’s varied interest in cinema and its biggest stars.”
