Intel's AI Odyssey: Navigating Dell Tech World's Journey into the Future

Will AI take away all our jobs or will it augment and enable us to create something greater?

Dell Tech World unfolded last week, a grand spectacle of AI prowess that drew over 10,000 eager minds. I found myself immersed in the heart of AI, rubbing shoulders with industry luminaries and absorbing insights that ignited my imagination. As I navigated through the AI Village and hands on lab, this question echoed in my mind.

I am grateful for Intel Corporation’s sponsorship and the opportunity to attend this remarkable event.

4.  Arthur Lewis (President of Dell’s Infrastructure Solutions Group)

Lewis highlighted Intel #Gaudi3 on XE9680 for its GPU silicon diversity.  It leverages Dell's liquid cooling expertise for enhanced energy efficiency and market-leading throughput.

He also unveiled Project Lightning, a novel parallel file system for unstructured data and underscored Dell's collaboration with Intel and the importance of x86 innovations in addressing the burgeoning AI workload demands.

5. Vasudev Lal (Principal AI Research Scientist, Cognitive AI, Intel Labs)

I learned about the difference between Intel Gaudi2 and Gaudi3 AI accelerators, and how the Intel Cognitive AI team at Intel Labs pushes the state-of-the-art in AI using AI clusters in Intel Developer Cloud (cloud.intel.com)

6. I was thrilled to meet Guadi 3 and held it at the Intel booth. Here is what I learned about Gaudi 3 and its significant performance improvement over leading competitive solution:

• Up to 1.7 times better training performance.

• 50% faster inference.

• 40% improved efficiency.

• 50% faster speed when running AI language models.

• It also comes at a more budget-friendly price point compared to H100

8. In Awe of the VR experience Intel and Dell co-funded for the modern data center. Not only impressed with the 360 degree view, but also how comfortable the VR headset feels.

9. Contributed to building the Sustainability Wall by adding a used computer part to the "Make ART Not Waste" wall.

10. My favorite moment of #DellTechWorld was when this Robot walked over and let me pat his head.

11. My experience at the hands-on lab tops everything else.

Deploy AI workloads at the edge in transportation industry.  Here is what I learned:

• A simple AI solution for the transportation and logistics market, targeting challenges in the maritime industry by creating an AI powered cargo monitoring PoC built with Dell hardware.

• Addresses business challenges for sensor data acquisition, worker safety and surveillance and reporting regulations for the entire journey.

• Deploy computer vision, GenAI and sensor data calculations on PowerEdge Servers. This is powered by Intel 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processor.

GenAI application development accelerator.

• GenAI application development accelerator enabled me building GenAI applications using existing templates

• It enabled me to focus on solving my use cases instead of reviewing and selecting complex set of tools and resources.

• Journeys simplify LLM evaluation based on my use case.

12. Quality time reconnecting with a few friends Janine Wegner at Dell Technologies; Jordan Stewart at Equinix; and made new friends Jill Carroll @Karen Frey at Intel Corporation @Elizabeth Hawes, Dheerendra Panwar, Michael Simon at Dell Technologies and Danielle Estes AT&T Business and @Jim Reinhold at HIPER Global.

As I reflect on my time at Dell Tech World, I'm mesmerized by the rapid pace of innovation in the AI landscape. We stand at the threshold of a new era, transitioning from computation to cognition. The question looms: will AI take our jobs, or will it serve as a catalyst for human creativity and advancement? As we navigate this journey, one thing remains clear: the future is ours to shape.
