Qt Group and Qualcomm have announced a strategic collaboration.
Both giants are working together to accelerate the development process of sophisticated graphical user interfaces (GUIs), ensuring software quality assurance for industrial IoT devices.
The joint effort combines Qt’s versatile cross-platform development tools with Qualcomm Technologies’ powerful processors, promising to significantly reduce time-to-market for IoT manufacturers.
As a leading semiconductor manufacturer, Qualcomm provides processors for a wide range of industries, spanning from smartphones and automobiles to extended reality and IoT devices. By integrating Qt’s platform onto Qualcomm’s software, software vendors gain the ability to develop and test UI solutions more efficiently utilizing Qualcomm’s advanced processors.
Moreover, this collaboration simplifies and accelerates the development of Systems on Modules (SoMs), which are compact computer systems pivotal in creating embedded electronic devices like robots and security cameras.
Roger Mazzella, Senior Product Manager at Qt, emphasizes the pivotal role of user experience in technological innovation. He states, “When you tune out the noise surrounding tech innovation today, what is it really at the end of the day that impacts end users the most? It’s the user experience – specifically the user interface.”
In addition to UI capabilities, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) utilizing Qualcomm’s Qt-supported processors can take advantage of Qt’s software development and quality assurance tools, thus lowering production barriers.
Juhapekka Niemi, SVP of Product Management at Qt, underscores Qt’s extensive track record across 70 industries, affirming, “The benefit of Qt’s technologies is that they already have a history of implementation across 70 industries. We will give hardware and software vendors for IoT the UI/UX development and QA tools they need right out of the box.”
By leveraging Qt’s framework, IoT manufacturers can incorporate advanced 3D graphics capabilities into device UIs in a more streamlined manner compared to traditional game engines, which often include unnecessary features for IoT GUI development.
Manvinder Singh, VP of Strategy and Partner Solutions Development of IoT at Qualcomm, emphasizes Qualcomm Technologies’ commitment to fostering an industry ecosystem conducive to creating top-notch hardware and software solutions for vertical markets using their chipsets. Singh asserts, “At Qualcomm Technologies, we strongly believe in building an industry ecosystem that allows manufacturers to create excellent hardware and software solutions for vertical markets using our chipsets.”
Moreover, Qt Group’s tools aim to enhance collaboration between developers and designers by enabling simultaneous work within the same framework, ideal for cross-platform development of low-powered and embedded devices.
This collaboration between Qt Group and Qualcomm promises to provide developers with a comprehensive solution for building innovative IoT solutions. With Qt’s versatile development tools and Qualcomm’s powerful processors, IoT manufacturers can expect accelerated time-to-market and enhanced user experiences for their products.
