According to The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) report, nearly eight million UK jobs are at risk of being lost to artificial intelligence.

Women, younger workers, and those on lower wages are at most risk from automation.

The IPPR report said that entry level, part-time and administrative jobs were most exposed to being replaced by AI following new technologies in the next three to five years.

Companies continue to adopt generative AI technologies, threatening routine tasks like database management, scheduling, and customer service.

Economic ramifications could result in the UK facing zero GDP growth within the next three to five years if appropriate measures are not taken to mitigate job losses.

The IPPR said 11% of tasks currently done by workers were at risk. This could, though, increase to 59% of tasks in the second wave as technologies develop to handle increasingly complex processes.

The report serves as a serious wake-up call for stakeholders to take immediate action and harness the potential of AI to drive economic growth while protecting workers.

Sjuul van der Leeuw, CEO of Deployteq, part of Inspired Thinking Group, said: “AI is at the forefront of growing industries and as we stand at the crossroads, it’s clear that government, businesses and educators must embrace its benefits. In a sector such as marketing, AI is vital to improving the success of campaigns through data analysis and forecasting to assess what works and how to better engage a target audience. Leaning into innovation will unlock new possibilities for marketers, who can work hand-in-hand with AI tools, freeing them up to do what they do best, be creative.”
