Living La Vida Golden: Beauty and Wellness Tips for Seniors

Everybody wants to feel good, like they have a glow emanating from the inside that’s visible on the outside.

This is true for people of all ages. Older adults are wise to mind how their bodies have changed and respond accordingly.

Here are a few tips proving that for seniors, beauty is forever.

1. Sunscreen is Essential

The sun is what helps plants and crops grow, and life on this planet would be impossible without it. But the UV rays it emits are very bad for the skin, causing wrinkles and uneven skin tone.

Older adults should use products with at least 7% zinc oxide and an SPF of at least 30 that has both UVA and UVB protection. If you’ve been swimming or outside for two hours, reapply the sunscreen.

2. Tend to Dry Skin

Preventive measures like sunscreen are great, but you can also respond to what dries out skin at the moment. Using a humidifier at home helps, as do moisturizing soaps, lotions, and creams.

If these don’t fix the problem, you should see a doctor or healthcare specialist.

3. Balanced Meals and Hydration

Older adults need to eat balanced, nutritional meals for their overall health, but it also makes their skin look healthier. Drinking ample water can help improve the look of one’s skin and keep it from drying out.

4. The Right Sleep

They call it beauty rest for a reason. Everybody feels better when they get ample sleep, and they look better, too. Older adults may feel compelled to change their sleeping patterns, and they’d be wise to trust their instincts.

To help get a good night’s sleep, ensure the nighttime environment is cozy and fosters restfulness. It should be dark, quiet, and kept at a comfortable temperature.

5. Exercise

Keeping a body active can really change how it looks. Older adults should find an activity that suits their body and their lifestyle. It should be physically engaging without being too intense.

Low-impact activities like yoga, swimming, or walking can be perfect. Older adults living in retirement communities like All Seniors Care Living Centres have a range of exciting activities at their fingertips, and they’re surrounded by like-minded people to keep them company.

Having facilities and classes led by caring professionals is a great way to stay in shape and keep looking great. People are more likely to keep exercising and stay active when they can do it with friends.

6. No Smoking

It’s hard to overstate the negative impacts of smoking. Apart from the harmful effects on the body, like cancer and heart disease, smoking can cause premature wrinkles, discolouration, and more. Smoking causes your blood vessels to narrow, decreasing the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the skin.

The good news is that quitting smoking can reverse many of these effects! Multiple studies show that it’s never too late to stop smoking, as it doesn’t take very long for the positive effects to begin appearing.
