Breathing Space Principles for Honoring Your Resolutions

Post your resolutions on your bathroom mirror or wherever you'll automatically notice them as you start each day.

Remember, you are not your past – it's a new year, and there can be a new you.

Work at each resolution or goal a little at a time. The more challenging the resolution, the more important it is for you to approach it methodically. Don't try to accomplish it all at once.

Share your resolutions with others and elicit their support.

Join others who have similar resolutions or goals.

Condition your environment – surround yourself with whatever supports your goals.

When you feel stuck, remind yourself of what you want. When I find myself straying from my course, I often say, "Okay, Jeff, you said you wanted to accomplish this, didn't you?"

Give yourself small rewards as you make interim progress toward your resolutions.
