8 Instagram Marketing Stats You Need to Know

Every business worth its salt will have a decent social media presence.

If that fits your business model, they’ll have a regularly updated Facebook page, Instagram account, and YouTube channel. Social media platforms are the best ways to promote your business and connect with your audience.

Instagram reached 2 billion active users in 2022 and is projected to grow to 2.5 billion by 2023. It is one of the world’s most popular social media networks and will only become more popular as time progresses.

If you’re looking to market your business, no matter what type of business, you’d be foolish not to hop on the Instagram bandwagon. Here are eight Instagram marketing statistics you need to be aware of.

1. Instagram is The 4th Most Popular Social Media app

If you’re looking for a way to get in touch with more people, then Instagram is one of the tools you should utilize. With active monthly users, the total was 1.4 billion in 2022.  That makes it the fourth most popular social media behind WhatsApp, YouTube, and Facebook. If you’re not on Instagram, you’re missing out on hundreds, if not thousands, of potential new customers for your products or services.

2. The Popular Social Media Platform Has 159 Million American Users

Suppose you’re an international business or looking to become one by breaking into the North American market. In that case, it will please you to hear that Instagram has a massive American market, with 159 million users (just under half of the American national population), according to Statista. Second, only India, it’s a great market if you want to sell internationally.

3. Instagram's Shopping Feature is Popular

If you’re an e-commerce business looking for a new place to sell and market your products, then Instagram’s e-commerce features are well-used among its users. Approximately 87% of Generation Z users use Instagram’s shopping feature for holiday shopping. With Christmas fast approaching, there’s never a better time to break into the Instagram e-commerce market.

4. Both Men and Women Equally Love it

This will be an interesting statistic for those that sell unisex clothing products or other houseware-style products that can be marketed to both sexes. Instagram users are almost split right down the middle, with 43% of males and 57% of females accounting for Instagram’s global usage; there’s plenty of potential to market to both sexes.

5. Over 500 Million People Using Instagram Stories Daily

Facebook and Instagram both have ‘stories.’ These short clips are used as quick-and-dirty marketing tools by businesses and other users to share glimpses of their day. Since Instagram Stories became a thing, they’ve become hugely popular, with over 500 million people using Instagram stories daily. If you join the queue of Story users, you can engage with customers old and new on a shorter basis than them having to read your posts.

6. 21% of Generation Z Use Instagram

Instagram allows you to write cool captions with your posts, including hashtags (with a 2,200-character limit). These captions can be anything you want, but using branded captioning, that is, writing captions to include your brand, is a great way to get your brand or product recognized by Instagram’s algorithm and promoted throughout the app’s user base. Meaning more eyes on your products.

7. 15% of U.S. Shoppers Start Their Online Shopping Searches on Instagram

Instagram has a feature known as ‘live shopping,’ essentially allowing users to launch their shopping event via Instagram Live and have users purchase directly from them during this live stream.

Think of live auctions, and you’ll be somewhere close. If your product appeals to 18–34-year-olds, it might be time to consider choosing Instagram’s Live Shopping feature to launch your next shopping extravaganza. IG’s Live Shopping is trendy among that age demographic.

8. 79% of Instagram Users Click on the Ads They See

Suppose you’re already integrated with Instagram’s marketing strategies and are seeking to expand into paying for your advertisements. In that case, you should know that 79% of Instagram users click on the ads they see. And they only cost between $0.79 and $1.00 to run, so your potential return on investment is very high.

Using Instagram as a social media network and a marketing tool for your business makes sense as we move into the new year. With anticipated growth and the market already hungry for more IG business content, it’s a no-brainer. If you haven't developed an Instagram marketing strategy, it's time to do so.
