In the fall of 1972, a young laborer in his early twenties from Shanghai wrote his inaugural letter to a Qingdao-based calligrapher and seal carver, seeking guidance on the art of seal carving.

Master Liu pursued his passion, overcame obstacles, and studied diligently under the tutelage of the esteemed seal carver Su Bai. In 2005, Master Liu founded the Liu Yiwen Art Gallery in the former residence of Wang Xizhi in Linyi, Shandong Province, China. In 2016, he established a master studio in Shanghai. In 2015, Master Liu received the prestigious Chinese Calligraphy Lanting Award for Art, the highest national accolade for calligraphy, and has continued to explore new avenues of self-fulfillment through ongoing learning and creation.
