Know the Google Algorithms

You have an edge over others if you’re familiar with the Google algorithm.

Google algorithm is something that is updated frequently. It is decided by Google as and when the needs of the users change. Most of these changes are announced publicly but not everyone is aware of them. And this is why the number of marketers blame the change in algorithms for their poor rankings.

Staying updated with the Google algorithms is a responsibility if you’re a marketer, especially one in the digital sphere. Being familiar with the basics will help you build from there and align all your content with those rules and guidelines put out by Google.

Business Listing and Local Directories

If yours is a local business, you need to get your business listed in the local directories and Google My Business listing. If you are able to get maximum reviews for your business, your business will start showing up on every local search that is made. Make sure your listing details are complete, with a detailed description of your business along with the opening and closing hours and other information that your audience may require.

Website Ranking Factors

There are certain factors that can affect search engine ranking. You could check these for your website as well and see what areas of your website need improvement.

HTTPS

A major change that came up in 2006. The website that migrated to HTTPS has been better placed than the websites using HTTP.

When it comes to HTTPS, it is considered more secure and safe. This is why when we enter information on a website “HTTP”; we receive a pop-up message saying that the website is insecure. An HTTPS website has better chances of ranking higher when compared to an HTTP website.

Website speed

Initially, Google considered the desktop speed to be a ranking factor. But looking at the changing scenario where users prefer mobile to search for any content, the mobile speed for a website also matters in getting a good rank on Google. The faster your website loads, the better your chances are of ranking higher.

Meta tags

This is one of the most important factors of ranking well on Google. The placement of meta tags (H1, H2, etc) throughout the content on your website helps the bots identify the topic of the page. It also helps search engines determine whether the content is relevant for the used keywords.

Page rank

It is an algorithm used by Google to rank web pages according to their page ranks.

Now, how is the page rank calculated? The number and quality of links that link back to a page determine the page rank. Remember that Google focuses more on quality and authority of those links rather than the quantity. So make sure you build quality links to the website.

Domain authority

In Google’s terms, domain authority is considered a websites reputation. The score ranges from 1 to 100. It ensures that the content provided is of good quality. This means a more reliable website like Google and Wikipedia will have a higher domain authority as compared to a website that is just launched.

Backlinks

The links are an overall ranking factor for a website. It is good if you are able to get natural backlinks from other relevant websites. When authoritative pages link to your web pages, this gives confirmatory signals to the search engines that your website is trustworthy.

There are three kinds of links: inbound, outbound and internal links.

SEO factors

This includes both off page and on page optimization of the web pages, meaning how well you are able to incorporate relevant keywords on the website.

On page techniques refer to all that you do on your website to rank it higher like the keywords added, meta tags, description and internal linking, etc. whereas off page activities are those that you do away from your website to raise the ranking of your page with search engines. Some of them are blog writing, blog marketing, social networking and link building.

Website Audit

A regular website audit will help you know the key areas of your website that still need improvement. You need to try and test various modifications to pinpoint the ones that actually improved your Google ranking. You can conduct a technical SEO audit, remove duplicate content, check for broken links on your website, etc
