Simple Steps to Make Your Life More Organised

Getting organised is an essential skill to succeed in the modern world.

It requires patience and effort. Organizing your schedule is key to condition yourself for success

Here are a few simple steps that you can take to have a successful life

1. Write Things Down

Everytime you tell yourself ‘I’ll remember that’, you probably won’t. Remembering birthdays, special occasions, big events, they may seem memorable, but tend to sneak up on us when it is too late, and send us into a flying panic and build up a mountain of stress that we simply don’t need. Pen and paper is our way of remembering things externally, of visualising the event and knowing that no matter how bad your memory is that day, everything you need to know is written down in one safe place. Writing down appointments, events, even shopping lists is a safe way to ensure your mind is less busy and complicated and your life is more organised.

2. Make Schedules and Deadlines

Organised people don’t waste time. They recognise that keeping things organised goes hand in hand with staying productive.  They make and keep schedules for the day and week, or goals to hit for how many things they should get done in one set time period. Making goals and deadlines is one thing, but sticking to them is entirely another! Make sure that you keep your goals and deadlines realistic, in order to enjoy the satisfaction when you reach them. Lists and schedules can be long term and short term, in the short term you may want to clean the kitchen by the end of the day, but it is important to have long term goals too, so why not pick something from your bucket list and set it as a goal to complete by the end of the year?

3. Don’t Procrastinate

This is easier said than done. Sometimes we avoid tasks so tedious, that even watching paint dry sounds like a more enticing pastime. But the likelihood is, that task is not going away and so the best thing to do is to simply get it over with. The longer you wait, the more difficult it is going to be to get done, do it now and lift that weight off of your shoulders!

4. Give Everything a Home

Losing things and finding things takes up time and complicates your daily tasks. It is easy to lose something if you don’t know where it is supposed to be. Restore order to your home and to your life, by having a place where you will always find your keys, or always find your socks or wallet. Labelling storage places can also be fun, especially for food and other items in your kitchen, to make your cooking experience easier and more enjoyable. Don’t allow things to get cluttered, keep all of your storage areas easily accessible and clear, especially for the things that you use every day.

5. Declutter Regularly

Find a set time every week in order to organise and declutter. Organisation isn’t a one time thing, it needs to be reevaluated continuously and consistently. Take some time each month to toss out things you no longer need or use, and try not to buy anything new, without first removing something else from your home to make space for your new purchase. Clutter leads to chaos, and so as a general rule of thumb, if you haven’t used or worn something for 6 months, maybe it is time for it to be donated or hit the bin. Don’t let unused items sit and collect dust in your ever growing piles of clutter!
