Are you a small business owner? Did you notice that your SME website is not getting enough visitors? Are you trying to figure out why this happens and how you can improve your website traffic?

You’ve landed on the right article! The journey of a small business to become a well-established and popular is full of many challenges. Amongst many challenges that a small business faces, “How to get more traffic to my website?” is perhaps the most common challenge that almost all SMEs face at some point in time. This article will guide you on how you can solve this problem and get more traffic to your website.

As a small business owner, there are times when you feel that your business is not receiving as many visitors as it should be receiving. Frequent questions that small business owners want answers to are “Why won’t my website get any traffic?” and “How can I get more visitors to my website?”. And that's exactly the problem we're going to address in this article!

Here are some things you can do to get more visitors to your website:

SEO and Keywords

One of the top reasons why your small business website isn’t receiving any traffic could be the lack of SEO. If you have not yet implemented SEO on your business website, this could be the leading cause of why you haven’t been discovered by your target audience online.

The key role of SEO for a small business website is to let small businesses rank better on the search engines. SEO stems from keyword research. Your business must carry out keyword research and then optimize your website for these selected keywords.

Keywords being the building blocks of your website SEO, the selection of keywords should be done in a smart manner, and in such a way that you aim for low competition keywords on which you want your sme website to rank on search engines. It is important that you use long tail keywords that have lower search volume and lower competition such that ranking on these keywords becomes easy.

Create Good Content

The content on your website should be clear, unique, informative and easy to consume. If the content on your website is not easily understood by your target audience, chances are they will exit your website.

Whenever you create content, make sure it is written first for the users and then for the search engines. Even though you need to implement keywords in your content, there should be a flow while reading the content. Do not stuff keywords in your content such that it becomes difficult for a human being to read and understand the content. Your content should be easy to understand and should direct the user on what he must do next. Keep your content relevant, informative and easy to understand.

Target Audience

This may seem irrelevant but in order to drive more visitors to your website, you must fully understand your target audience. Why is this? Because the better you understand your audience, the more familiar you become with the online spaces where they are likely to spend time. For example, if your target audience is the millennials, they are more likely to spend time on Instagram and YouTube as compared to LinkedIn. Similarly, if yours is a B2B business then you probably should be targeting your audience and business owners on LinkedIn via LinkedIn marketing, where as if yours is a B2C business your main focus should be on Facebook

As a business owner, knowing exactly who to target can be highly beneficial for your business.

Social Media

Perhaps one of the most powerful tools in the hand of all business owners and marketers in today’s day and age is Social Media.

With a great social media presence, you can make your business thrive online. But what do we know for sure? If you aren’t present on social media, your business becomes less discoverable to your target audience.

Businesses that are well-established or well-reputed have a strong presence on social media. They use various platforms to keep in touch with their target audience, update them with the latest happening in their business and also engage with them on topics they enjoy.

You can engage with your audience and direct them to various pages on your website, which in turn is bound to increase the traffic on your website. This can be done through contests, promotional discounts, etc.

Regular Audit and Analysis

No matter how effective your marketing strategies were a couple of months ago, it is a good idea to regularly audit your strategy and the results it brings to your business.

Social media and website insights can give you a good idea of what kind of posts your audience engages with and what kind of content they like to consume. Website analytics tools like Google Analytics can give you a good idea on the channels through which your audience discovers your business. It is a good idea to identify strategies that work and promote those further.

Regular audits are bound to give you a good understanding of what works and what doesn’t. Naturally, it seems beneficial to implement strategies that have worked for your business in the past. At the same time, it is a good idea to be innovative in trying out new strategies to drive more traffic to your website!

I still believe that content is king, also good customer service is a must. Bots have become so popular in 2018.
