How to Plan a Road Trip?

Planning a road trip requires choosing the right mode of transport, knowing itineraries, and keeping essentials.

There has been a sharp rise in demand for staycations this year. To keep things as secure as possible, camping on home soil is your best bet. So, what are you waiting for? Pack up the car, buy yourself a used campervan and head off on a well-deserved road trip. When you do, just make sure to follow these top tips.

1. Pack Smart

Packing well for a road trip is always important, but the coronavirus crisis makes that more important now than ever. In addition to warm, waterproof clothes, cooking equipment, and toiletries, bring spare face masks and a pack of hygiene products with you.

Consider packing enough food for the journey, too. You can avoid going to the shops and minimize social contact. Although, if you think you’ll need to run to the shop for any reason, make sure you pack a contactless payment card.

2. Know Where you Want to go

Before you leave, it’s essential to plan out your route. While stumbling across the perfect campsite might have been an exciting part of your road trips in previous years, chances are that many places won’t allow that now.

You’ll have to know where you want to go, how you want to get there, and what you’ll need to do to secure your spot onsite. Whether taking a Great Barrier Reef tour, or Stonehenge, campsite apps can help you do just that.

In addition, for regular road trippers, some stops on your usual route might have changed. So, make sure you work out which of your favorite pit stops are open as usual and what toilet breaks might have to be fewer and further between.

3. Choose the Perfect Mode of Transport

You can’t have a road trip without the right vehicle. And, this year, more than ever, campervans are the perfect choice for people who want to hit the road and find a spot to stay overnight.

For one thing, they help to minimize social contact, which is harder to do if you choose to pitch a tent on a crowded campsite. Also, they often come equipped with indoor amenities such as plumbing and kitchens.

Look into hiring the perfect campervan, buying a used one, or a new one for your next trip. That way, you’ll be ready to head out on your adventure as soon as the time is right.

4. Keep it Clean

Whether you rent out a campervan or take your own out on the road, you’ll need to keep it clean. By now, we all know just how infectious the coronavirus is. You’ll bring it into the van at one point or another, whether by hand, via your phone, or on some shopping bags.

Regularly wipe down your campervan’s surfaces with a household cleaner, checking to ensure that the one you use contains soap or detergent. This will reduce your risk of infection and stop you from getting sick on holiday.

5. Approach Amenities Carefully

You might need to use the facilities when you’re done driving for the day and get set up on your pre-booked campsite. If your van doesn’t have a powerful plumbing system or your kitchen set-up is a bit basic, public amenities might have to be your first port of call.

If that’s the case for you, ensure you’re careful at every step. As with other public spaces, you’ll have to practice social distancing for your safety and that of others around you. You might also want to bring sanitizing products with you, just in case the ones on offer at the campsite aren’t what you hoped they’d be.

6. Enjoying Your Road Trip

Think about more than usual when you head off camping and road trips this year. However, that’s not to say you can’t still have a great holiday. All it means is that you’ll be well prepared to be safe and secure.
