Being someone who loves coffee, chicory root has been an incredible addition to my daily routine. For me personally, I enjoy the comforting feeling of drinking coffee, but when I drink it everyday it makes it difficult for me to sleep, makes me more anxious, and makes me more fatigue during the day. Discovering chicory root was a gamechanger. It has a coffee-like taste, with an incredible list of health benefits.
1) Incredible Source of Iron
Chicory root is a great source of iron. Conventional coffee can deplete your body’s iron stores, but with chicory root you are absorbing more naturally. Having a sufficient amount of iron in your body will promote more energy, better athletic performance, and increased nervous system function.
2) Decreases Inflammation in the Body
Inflammation is the root cause of most diseases. Drinking coffee, which is extremely acidic, increases inflammation in the body. Chicory root has the opposite effect. It promotes a more alkaline environment in the body. It contains plant polyphenols, which are known for their role in decreasing inflammation and preventing degenerative diseases such as cancer and heart disease.
3) Improves Digestive Health
Unlike coffee which often causes digestive dysfunction, chicory root has been shown to improve gut health. It contains inulin, which increases the growth of good bacteria in the gut. Inulin has also shown benefits such as decreased constipation and increased bowel function, as well as even decreasing insulin resistance and lowering blood sugar.
Chicory root has so many incredible benefits. You can alter the amounts that you use to find the taste that you love! I make my chicory root coffee using a French press, and in minutes it’s ready to drink! I’m excited to hear your feedback and chicory root coffee recipes that you love in the comments below! Cheers!
