3 Uses for Lavender Essential Oil for Toddlers

After having baby, I quickly realized how helpful essential oils were going to be in my life.

From immune support, to a chemical-free air freshener option, using oils has been a game-changer. My baby is now a busy toddler, and we use our oils more than ever. If there was an oil that I couldn’t live without, it would be lavender. Your Facebook post gets more likes than anything you have ever posted, nurses take care of your baby like he or she is the only one in the world, countless baby giftsand you have a week’s worth of food dropped at your house.

1) Improved Quality of Sleep

Lavender oil is extremely soothing and can help promote a better night’s sleep. It’s also extremely helpful if your baby or toddler is having a fussier day. There are a few ways that you can use lavender to help your toddler relax or sleep more soundly. First, and my favorite, is with a diffuser. Diffusing lavender oil in your toddler’s room (especially if you can have it running at least 30 minutes before their bedtime) will promote more restful sleep. A second method that is helpful, is mixing a few drops of lavender oil with water in a spray bottle and spritzing it on bedding and around their bedroom. Another greatly effective way to use lavender is to dilute properly with a carrier oil (such as coconut oil or grapeseed oil), and apply to the bottoms of their feet before bedtime.  And lastly, is adding a few drops of lavender into your child’s bath before bed. And don’t just limit these tips to your children! They work amazing for adults as well!

2) Soothe Irritated Skin/ Bug Bites

Lavender oil is extremely soothing to the skin, acts as a natural antiseptic, and is anti-inflammatory. For toddler’s, scrapes, burns, rashes, and bug bites are bound to happen. Having lavender on hand is always a must for me. Diluting it with a carrier oil will allow you to apply it directly on the affected areas. Always test for sensitivities first, and be sure to check proper dilution guides. Having lavender diluted in a roller bottle, makes it easy to take on the go, so no matter where you are, you’re always ready for a toddler scrape or bug bite.

3) Improve Respiration

Lavender oil also provides incredible support to the respiratory system by reducing inflammation, relieving congestion, and loosening up phlegm. Whenever the occasional cough and cold hits, or seasonal allergies, diffusing lavender oil can be a life-safer! You can also apply it diluted topically to the back and/or chest for added support.

An Amazing First Wellness Step

There are countless amounts of uses for essential oils, and all of them have such incredible benefits. I encourage you, especially if you have kids, to start incorporating them into your daily lives. Using them has made a tremendous impact on the health of my own family, and has basically eliminated the need for toxic chemicals that we have to have in our home. Choosing more natural methods, such as oils, is an amazing first step towards better health and wellness.
