6 Important Things You Need to Know About Moving to Mexico

With the world slowly opening up again and some places allowing international travel, people are grasping at the opportunity to visit new places.

In some cases, people are even choosing to permanently move somewhere new.

While there are many places that you could move to, Mexico is quite a popular choice. It’s rich in culture, and it’s often easier and cheaper to move to Mexico than to other countries.

That being said, moving abroad is a big decision, so you shouldn’t rush into it. If you’re wondering whether or not moving to Mexico is the right decision for you, keep reading to learn more about what you need to know about moving to Mexico.

What are the Emotional Effects?

Moving anywhere will always place a strain on someone and their relationships, simply because it’s such a stressful experience. So, it makes sense that moving abroad is sure to have an impact on you.

After all, you will likely be saying goodbye to a lot of loved ones, and leaving your comfort zone. On top of that, you will need to adjust to a new country, which can be hard, especially if you don’t know the language.

The fact that there’s so much to do likely won’t make the emotional impact any easier. You will need to plan a lot of things, keep track of a lot of paperwork, and look into things like health insurance in Mexico for expats

How Much will it Cost?

Moving isn’t a cheap thing. And the same can be said for traveling abroad. Combine the two, and you’re looking at quite a lot of money that will be spent.

You will need to pay for your visa and flight tickets, and you may also need to prove that you can financially sustain yourself and any dependents for a few months. Of course, if you have any assets – such as a house – that you can sell, you can use that money towards your relocation.

Everyone’s budget will look different depending on their reason for moving. For example, if you are moving there to start a business and look after your family, your budget will differ vastly from someone who is moving there to study. You will need to budget for a business and a family, while they will only need to set up a student budget

What’s the Lifestyle Like?

Mexico is a country rich in culture, and it may take you a while to adapt to this new lifestyle. Keep in mind that the image of Mexico that the media portrays isn’t always accurate.

It’s a warm place to live, and many people in Mexico embrace the idea of slow living. Mexico also has a lot of history, so if you’re someone who likes learning new things, you’ll probably find it fascinating.

Is it Safe?

Mexico often has a bad reputation for being unsafe. The truth is that, as with most places, there are safe areas and there are unsafe areas. Crime happens everywhere, but if you do come from somewhere with an extremely low crime rate, you might want to start building some habits to keep you safe when you live in Mexico.

This is something that you should do anyway, regardless of where you live. Click here for some basic self-defense moves that everyone should know.

Is it Worth it?

The main question that people have when it comes to moving to Mexico – or anywhere else abroad, for that matter – is whether or not it’s worth it. Unfortunately, that is up to you to decide, cliché as it may sound.

You need to ask yourself whether Mexico can offer you a better life than you currently have and whether it’s worth taking a risk. If you’re not sure whether you can see yourself settling in Mexico, book some cheap flights and go there for a visit before you commit to anything more permanent.

Are There Work Opportunities?

If you are moving to Mexico for work, you will of course want to know whether or not you will be able to find work. The truth is that it depends on a variety of factors, so there’s not a definitive answer.

It will depend on your field and what experience you have. The best thing to do is apply to a few jobs and test the waters before you decide to pack up and leave.

In conclusion

Mexico is a great place, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you should live there. For some, visiting is more than enough.

That being said, if you’re someone who likes being immersed in a new culture, who enjoys learning new things, and eating great food, Mexico can be a great adventure. Of course, as with all big decisions, you need to make sure that it’s something you truly want. Think about it, and don’t rush into it.

I have worked in Mexico since 2002 and moved here from Malibu in 2016. The people here are family oriented and cannot be nicer. They do like to party and have fun. There is no ethnic drama or undercurrents. I got a flat tire on the open road and a Mexican stopped and changed my tire and refused to take money from me. The Sicario or Cartel have zero interest in you. They run their business and hunt each other down – not you. The doctor where I live actually comes to the house and drops off prescription which are insanely cheap. The food here is as good as it gets and fresh. The cost of living is so affordable. Now that Starlink is just now available with the fasted internet speeds like Silicon Valley working in Mexico is a no brainer. Oh, and homeless camps? I have not seen them like the US. People are happy. Most of all real estate is very affordable even on the coast. As more people become aware and get older this is the only realistic place to be regardless of income for quality of life and peace. It is far safer here than the US. When did you hear last of a school or mall shooting in Mexico?
