How Eternals & Other Marvel Movies Limited Shang-Chi's VFX

Marvel Studios have made history by creating the Marvel Comics Universe.

This is a world where everyone’s favorite superheroes can come together and have their story told. New movies and series are released every year, creating more excitement for comic fans and never-ending entertainment.

Creating the Marvel Comics Universe might seem easy to viewers. But, in reality, it takes a lot of juggling around between different storylines, actors and sets. So while viewers have recently enjoyed the likes of Black Widow and Spider-Man, there is just so much work behind the scenes. In fact, it can mean that certain heroes are limited and there are restrictions on what they are able to do. For instance, this is something that has happened to Shang-Chi. Let’s take a closer look at what has been going on.

The Problems with Shang-Chi and Eternals

Visual effects, which can also be shortened to VFX, play a huge part in a lot of movies. Indeed, this is the case with almost all Marvel movies. They add excitement for the viewer and help to portray the story of the superheroes and what they are going through. What comes together on screen can be amazing. But, what happens behind the scenes?

Well, recent interviews have let it slip that Marvel likes to have their say about visual effects. In particular, this happened to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The team were around halfway through the production when people at Marvel stated they wanted all of the weapons that featured in the movie to glow and bring colors. Of course, being halfway through production, this was a tricky thing to do. But the Shang-Chi team made it work with a few more months of grind.

But something you have to be careful of in the Marvel Universe, as well as with movies in general, is to ensure the visual effects you use do not copy anybody else. Indeed, this is something that the team had to watch. For instance, this was the case with Eternals. Thus, while a team has the freedom to have fun and create cool glowing weapons, they had to make sure this was done in a way that was different and unique compared to Eternals. If you are someone that likes to create, this is perhaps something you have also come across. Well, if you ever need inspiration, you can use the likes of Premiere Pro templates to get you started.

Difficulties Will Continue to Happen

It does not matter what type of movie the team is working on, not stepping on the toes of other visual effects being used is going to continue to be a problem. The Marvel Comics Universe is just so big and there is no end in sight. New movies and shows are coming out left, right and center. In fact, there are now around 14 franchises and five series all starring different superheroes. Not only do they have to make sure their stories make sense during the time and ensure the characters remain interesting, but now they have to make sure visual effects are unique.

Think about what it is like to be on that team. If you explore the Marvel Comics Universe, you know that there is everything from supernatural powers to magical elements. It is almost like everything has been done before. But, the team still manages to find ways to be unique and keep viewers entertained. Every hero or villain has to be different in some way. After all, we all know that fans love to create theories and how superheroes and characters know each other. If there are similarities, this is going to fuel fan theories.

Not to mention, it can sometimes be the same members of a team that will work on movie special effects. So, they will have to think of ways to change their own ideas and come up with different styles to suit each character. This can be incredibly different to do when you think about the creativity that goes into each project. What’s more, a lot of them will be working on different movies and shows all at once. So, they have to try to keep up with what they are creating in order not to disappoint fans.

Hopefully, when you are now watching the Marvel franchise, you will have a new-found respect for how much work goes into special effects. Everything is carefully researched and designed before a movie is released. So, when you are watching different movies and shows, take a look at all the scenes. For instance, the glow coming from the weapons in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The team is constantly working hard to make sure everything you see is the best it can be and to bring the superheroes we all love to life.
