Societal Responsibility – COVID19 is the Enemy

Societal Responsibility – COVID19 is the Enemy

I was perplexed recently when the anti (vaxer, COVID, freedom fighter) group in Alberta came out with the results of a survey.

Did you know that over 80% of people surveyed are tired of wearing masks? What a shock. I love my mask and…

Ok, I lie. I feel the same as the 80% who say that they are tired of wearing masks.

It is time to move on.

However, we have one problem. There is a group of people (12 – 15%) who are holding the rest of us hostage. By refusing to be vaccinated, for whatever reason, they are forcing the vast majority of us (sheep) to have our freedoms restricted, wear masks, stay away from family and friends, etc., etc., etc.

I’m tired of it. I have rights as well. I have the right to go about my business unafraid that someone who is exercising their right to not be vaccinated will pass enough of the COVID19 virus on to me and put me in the hospital. My five-year-old granddaughter has the right to experience life without a mask. We (the sheep) have a right to live a normal life.

We are being held hostage so that the rights of a very small group of people are respected. We are experiencing a tyranny of a minority.

I’m tired of it.

Almost 30,000 Canadians have died from COVID over the last two years, and the deaths just keep on coming. 700,000+ Americans have died from COVID – over 200,000 deaths more than WWI and WWII combined. And yet, even though we have a way to stop this, we are being held hostage by 12 – 15% of the population who hold their precious rights and freedoms dear to their hearts.

I hold our rights and freedoms close to my heart, but my individual right to endanger the lives of others is wrong. It has always been that way and it will (or should) always be that way.

At some point, there must be some societal responsibility. Personal freedoms cannot continue to be put ahead of the responsibilities that accompany those freedoms. When people’s lives are endangered, we all must sacrifice personal freedoms for the protection of our society as a whole.

COVID19 is an enemy. An enemy that has infiltrated our world. Every corner of our world. A highly contagious disease is an enemy to us all. Far more dangerous than terrorists, far more dangerous than any war we have fought in North America, far more dangerous to our social fabric than anything that we have faced in our collective histories for the last century. We are at war with an enemy that shows no mercy and will attack and kill anyone that it can.

We are at WAR!

We are a tolerant society, but how is this going to end? When is it going to end? Vaccines are not perfect. Almost 10% of those hospitalized in the fourth wave in Alberta were sheep – people who had done their part in this war and were double vaccinated. However, because of the number of unvaccinated people among us, imperfect vaccinations (all vaccinations are imperfect) have allowed completely innocent people to be attacked and even killed in order to preserve the individual freedoms of a very small minority.

How will this end? Will we, the sheep, have to continue to hide behind our masks because of the danger to us posed by the unvaccinated? Will we, the sheep, still be cowering behind our masks in five years? Ten years? How long will it take?

Are you willing to continue to hide? I’m tired of it. I’ve done my part in this war, and I want it to end.

There are enough vaccines in North America that we should have no need to fear. We should be able to move about freely, visit family and friends, assemble freely without fear. We should be able to do these things, but we can’t because of the unvaccinated exercising their freedoms. It is time for this to end. My grandchildren have the right to live in a world free from the tyranny of a minority. I have the right to live in a world free from the tyranny of a minority. You have the right to live in a world free from the tyranny of a minority. It is time for this tyranny to be over.

We should be helping the rest of the world. We should be helping the world less fortunate than us who don’t live in a society as wealthy and blessed as our society. We should be helping the world contain and defeat this enemy – but we can’t because we have allowed a small minority to dictate our actions. We have allowed a small minority to take away and trample our rights and freedoms. Because of this small minority, we have lost our rights to life, liberty, happiness, and living free from fear.

Why have we allowed a small group to harbor the enemy? Why have we decided that those who won’t be vaccinated should be free to aid and abet the enemy, spread its insidious purpose, and destroy the fabric of our society? We would band together to stop a gunman from spreading their lethal payload amongst us. COVID19 is the enemy. Any and every contagious disease is an enemy.

It is time for the sheep to decide how this will end. It is time that we took our responsibility to society seriously. It is time for us to exercise our rights to live freely. It is time for us to stand up and say enough. We have the means to defeat the enemy. It is time for us to stand up and say that the right of a small number of individuals who aid and abet this enemy do not overshadow our rights to live freely in our society.

In wartime, we would never allow individuals in our society to assist the enemy.

This must stop and it must stop now. If we don’t do something now you have to ask yourself what we are looking at down the road. With this tyrannical minority adamant that they will never give in, we will be faced with years and years of restrictions.

With spineless politicians continually backing down from any real mandate, granting endless exemptions, and extending deadlines over and over, we must send a clear and unequivocal message to those in charge that our rights count as well.

What is the answer? I’m unsure of exactly what we should do. But we need to have a conversation. We need to decide if we are going to implement enforced vaccination – like it or not. Do we give the tyrannical minority the right to choose exile? Exile from our society? Give them the opportunity and space to remove themselves from our midst – or choose for them?

I don’t know, but we, the sheep, need to start talking about us. We need to put our society back together again with the solid vow that this kind of thing will never happen again.

Over 700,000 Americans and almost 30,000 Canadians are dead – and the deaths are still happening when we have the capability to eliminate the threat.

We need to talk. We need to end this tyranny. Our responsibility to society, including our children, both born and unborn, must triumph over our enemy – COVID19. Those who harbor, aid, and abet the enemy must choose whether they are with us or against us.

We are society and, at least in this instance, we must stand together. We have the means to normalcy, and we must at least have the conversation to decide, as a society, what we are going to do.
