In the last few years, the arrival of private-hire cars such as Uber, Hitch, or Grab on the market has transformed the mindset of taxi drivers. Previously, they used to live comfortably, facing almost no competitors. As a result, there is little or no incentive for them to improve their service and attitude. Now, given the competitive edge that private-hire cars have over them, taxi companies have no choice but to improve their services.

Or, you get assaulted in a mall parking lot and someone holds up a cell phone and records it all the while providing commentary like, “Damn, she’s getting her ass beaten; someone should call the police?”

Taxes Matter But Is It Really Armageddon?
Nancy Pelosi, minority Democrat leader of the House of Representatives may have lost her way in the jungle of hyperbole when she described the recently passed Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (“TCJA”) as “Armageddon.” The standard definition of Armageddon is the last battle between good and evil that takes place before the Day of Judgment. While the TCJA is certainly an act of legislative vandalism passed by politicians more focused on their own political survival than the good of the country, it is not the end of the world.
